The Delta central senatorial candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and the governorship candidate of the party in the state , Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, have escaped alleged assassination attempt.
Senator Omo-Agege disclosed this yesterday , saying the incident occured at Usiefuru community, Ughelli South Local Government Area on Thursday where they went for political activities.
Omo-Agege in a statement expressed gratitude to God for the failed assassination bid, noting that six other members of his party however sustained injuries.
He alleged that suspected thugs sponsored by a rival political party opened fire at them during their visit to the community.
According to his statement, “Yesterday, Thursday, August 13, 2026, armed men attempted to take my life in Usiefrun, Ughelli South LGA. They also targeted Deacon Chris Iyovwaye, our NDC Governorship Candidate, and other members of the NDC leadership in Delta. Thankfully, by God’s grace, they failed.
“In Usiefrun, thugs opened fire on NDC members who had gathered to welcome us during our tour of Delta Central. Let it be on record: I was the main target. Six NDC members were injured, including Mr. Believe Biadoyo, Mr. Joshua Oghenetega Oyibocha, Owhos Peter, Ojiyovwin Dennis and two others “, he said.
Assuring that they would not be intimidated, OmoAgege enjoined the police to bring those behind the alleged assassination bid on him and the governorship candidate of his party, the NDC to book.
“We refuse to be intimidated or silenced. Our ward-to-ward visits across Delta Central Senatorial District will continue”, he added.
The police had not reacted to this allegation as at the time of filing this report. Senator Omo-Agege was a former deputy president of the Senate and a governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the state during the last governorship election.
