The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Benue State, Veronica Garba, has warned corps members against involvement in local politics and urged them to respect the customs and traditions of their host communities.
She also charged them to initiate impactful Community Development Service (CDS) projects that would address the needs of their host communities.
Garba gave the charge at the closing ceremony of the 21-day orientation course for the 2026 Batch C Stream I at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State.
On security, she advised corps members to remain vigilant, avoid night travel, refrain from taking the law into their hands and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the appropriate authorities.
She encouraged them to embrace skill acquisition, uphold discipline and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Congratulating the corps members on the successful completion of the orientation course, the state coordinator expressed gratitude to God for preserving the lives and health of corps members and camp officials throughout the exercise.
She commended the Benue State governor, Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for providing a secure and conducive environment for the smooth operation of the NYSC scheme.
Garba also praised stakeholders and collaborating agencies for their unwavering support and commitment to achieving the NYSC mandate.
Describing the orientation course as the first cardinal programme of the scheme, she urged the corps members to apply the values, lessons and skills acquired in camp as they proceed to their respective Places of Primary Assignment (PPAs).
She particularly urged them to take the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme seriously by participating in post-camp training and mastering practical skills that would promote self-reliance and prepare them for life after service.
