Lagos Police Disarm, Detain ASP Over Fatal Shooting Of Girl In Ajegunle

The Lagos State Police Command has disarmed and detained an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP Omotayo Olajide, over the fatal shooting of a young girl, Omole Taiwo, and injuring of another in the Nosamu area of Ajegunle.

The Command disclosed this on Saturday, saying the incident occurred on Thursday night, November 5, 2026, between 9:30pm and 10pm, when police operatives were deployed to the area to quell a violent clash between two rival groups over toll collection.

The groups, identified as the Nosamu Boys and Alayabiagba Boys, were reportedly armed with cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said Olajide discharged his firearm during the operation to restore order, and the bullet struck the two girls.

She said both victims were rushed to Ajeromi General Hospital for emergency treatment. Taiwo was later transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, where she was pronounced dead, while the second girl remained hospitalised in stable condition.

Adebisi said the Command deeply regretted the loss of an innocent life and had transferred the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and impartial investigation.

She added that the investigation would establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting and determine appropriate legal and disciplinary measures.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, has visited the bereaved family to offer his condolences and assured them that justice would be served.

He pledged that no officer found culpable would be shielded, while reiterating the Command’s commitment to transparency, accountability and the protection of human life.

The police urged anyone with information that could assist the investigation to report to the nearest police station or the Command’s Public Relations Department.
