14-year-old Kenyan golfer Kanana Muthomi has emerged as the individual champion of the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT), finishing six shots clear of her closest rival at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.
Muthomi sealed the continental title with a final-round 75 to finish with a 54-hole gross aggregate of 229, following opening rounds of 77 and 77.
The young Kenyan finished comfortably ahead of South Africa’s Isabella Ferreira, who returned an aggregate of 235 to claim second position.
Muthomi took control of the individual standings after the second round and maintained her advantage in the final round to secure the title, underlining her consistency against some of Africa’s leading female golfers.
Her triumph also provided a major highlight for Kenya, whose team finished second behind defending champions South Africa in the overall competition.
South Africa maintained their dominance of the team event, while Kenya emerged as their closest challengers throughout the 54-hole championship.
Tanzania finished third, with hosts Nigeria settling for fourth position, followed by Botswana, Uganda, Zambia, Tunisia, Zimbabwe and Ghana.
The team competition was decided using a three-player format in which the best two scores from each team counted towards the aggregate for each round.
Muthomi was Kenya’s standout performer, while Bianca Ngecu also made an important contribution after finishing sixth in the individual standings following the second round.
Kellie Gachaga completed the Kenyan trio, helping the team maintain its challenge for the overall title.
For Nigeria, the fourth-place finish meant the hosts missed out on a podium position despite competing on home soil.
The 2026 AACT brought together female golfers from more than 20 African countries, with the championship aimed at promoting competitive golf, friendship and the development of women’s golf across the continent.
Muthomi’s victory was particularly significant given her age, marking her out as one of the emerging talents in African women’s golf.
