Declan Rice Rescues Arsenal With Late Equaliser Against Bayern Munich

Declan Rice scored an 82nd-minute equaliser as Arsenal fought back to secure a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in their UEFA Champions League league-phase encounter on Wednesday night.

The England midfielder struck eight minutes from time to deny Bayern victory after Harry Kane had put the German champions ahead from the penalty spot in the 61st minute.

Arsenal had taken the lead through Eberechi Eze in the 25th minute, but Bayern responded through Kane before the break to level the contest at 1-1.

The visitors made a promising start and threatened early through Kai Havertz, but it was Eze who broke the deadlock midway through the first half, finishing a move created by Martin Ødegaard.

Bayern gradually grew into the contest and drew level in the 35th minute when Kane found the net to restore parity.

Both sides continued to push for an advantage before half-time, but neither could find another goal as they went into the interval level.

Bayern returned with renewed determination after the break and were rewarded when Kane converted a penalty in the 61st minute to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.

Arsenal responded by increasing the pressure in search of an equaliser, with manager Mikel Arteta’s side refusing to surrender despite Bayern’s advantage.

Their persistence paid off in the 82nd minute when Rice scored to make it 2-2, completing Arsenal’s fightback and ensuring the points were shared.

The result denied Bayern a home victory, while Arsenal secured a valuable point against one of Europe’s leading sides as both teams continued their Champions League campaigns.
