Adekunle Adams Oreoluwa, Aquilla Taiwo Oluwadamilola and Adekunle Kolade Peter have emerged winners of the Keep It Simple and Straight Flash Fiction Contest (KSSFFC).
This was announced by the KSSFFC co-founders, CP Emma Ojukwu, Amb. Ifeoma Chinwuba and Dr Lizi Ben Iheanacho.
Oreoluwa came first for his story ‘The Crown Rejects,’ where a son learns at the point of being crowned king that he is not of royal blood. A storyteller passionate about mystery, crime, and horror with a human twist, Oreoluwa takes home a cash prize of N50,000.
Oluwadamilola came second via a piece about an entitled thief in the church. She is a master’s student at the University of Ibadan, where she balances scientific research and creative writing. She gets a prize money of N30,000.
Peter came in third place for Heaven Keeps Books Too, which reflects the corruption in high places of power that trickles down to places of worship. A Lagos-based storyteller and poet receives N20,000 in third place.
KSSFFC was co-founded in early 2026 by CP Ojukwu, Amb. Chinwuba and Dr Iheanacho, three individuals driven by the desire to contribute to expanding literary frontiers and the genres available for honing narrative techniques.
Ojukwu is an author and a former chairman of the Association of Nigerian Authors, Abuja Chapter. Chinwuba is also an author, poet, and literary stakeholder, while Ben-Iheanacho is an author, critic, and literary prize administrator.
The contest required writers to submit flash fiction entries of no more than 50 words on the theme of crime, with thematic elements of royalty, faith, and justice.
A total of 73 entries were received in this second edition. The first edition, with the theme “Love,” in the first quarter of 2026, had up to 108 entries.
