The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed reports that it does not have governorship candidates in 12 states ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party, in a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, described the reports as false and misleading, insisting that it had duly nominated governorship candidates in all 28 states where governorship elections would be held in 2027.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the NDC has duly nominated and has governorship candidates in all the 28 states where governorship elections will take place in 2027,” Director said.
The NDC said it was a national political movement with structures, candidates and supporters across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
“The NDC is not a regional party. We are a national movement with candidates, structures, and supporters in all 36 states and the FCT,” the statement said.
The party specifically identified its governorship candidates in the 12 states allegedly listed in the reports as follows:
Zamfara State – Senator Kabiru Marafa
Borno State – Rtd Rear Admiral Ibrahim Sanusi Kasim
Cross River State – Hon. John Odey
Akwa Ibom State – Babanta Michael Okon
Ebonyi State – Nwofe Boniface
Plateau State – Yakubu Solomon Ndam
Katsina State – Ilu-Barde Aliyu
Kebbi State – Alhaji Umar Usman Besse
Yobe State – Jonga Yahaya Gabakau
Jigawa State – Dutse Aminu Sani
Taraba State – Prof. Yahaya Mohammed Sani
Niger State – Abdu Sidi Bomi
The party also urged media organisations, journalists, bloggers and content creators to verify information before publication.
“We urge media houses, journalists, bloggers, and content creators to scrutinize their sources and verify information before publishing. Journalism thrives on truth, not rumours,” the NDC said.
It warned that the circulation of unverified information could undermine public confidence in the media and the democratic process.
The NDC said it would remain focused on what it described as issue-based politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
“We will not be distracted by sponsored falsehoods,” the party said.
The party also called on Nigerians to support its political agenda, saying it would prioritise security, job creation and accountability if elected.
