Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled an attempted mass abduction by terrorists led by a suspected kingpin, Mallam Shuaibu, in Unguwar Rogo Village, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

A security personnel involved in the rescue operation, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak to the media, said the troops responded to a distress call on August 16, 2026, following reports that terrorists had invaded the community.

According to him, preliminary information indicated that Shuaibu and his associates were angered by the earlier arrest of some of their collaborators by troops while attempting to procure motorcycles and Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, for the terrorists.

He said following the arrests, the terrorists allegedly laid an ambush in a millet farm along the route, attacking passing vehicles and targeting occupants whose vehicles lost control and veered into the surrounding bushes.

The terrorists reportedly intended to abduct the victims, but the swift intervention of the troops forced them to withdraw into nearby bushes.

Nine civilians, including a five-month-old infant, were successfully rescued from the scene.

However, two female victims sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and are currently receiving medical attention.
