Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have recorded another major operational success in Sokoto State, rescuing seven kidnapped farmers and recovering motorcycles following a bandit attack on farming communities in Gandi, Rabah Local Government Area.
The rescue operation was carried out on Tuesday by troops of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army deployed in Gandi, following a swift response to reports of an attack by armed bandits on farmers working in the area.
A credible security source disclosed that the troops engaged the attackers in a coordinated operation that led to the successful rescue of the abducted victims and the recovery of motorcycles stolen during the assault.
According to the source, the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday when bandits stormed farmlands around Gandi community and attempted to abduct farmers while dispossessing them of their belongings.
The prompt intervention of security personnel, however, disrupted the criminals’ operation and forced them to retreat, enabling the troops to secure the release of the kidnapped farmers.
The source revealed that one civilian sustained a gunshot wound during the encounter with the bandits and was immediately evacuated to the General Hospital, Gandi, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.
The security source, who requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the operation, said the swift deployment of troops helped prevent further casualties and property damage.
He noted that the operation underscored the growing effectiveness of ongoing military offensives against criminal elements operating in parts of the North-West region.
The source further stressed that security agencies have continued to intensify proactive measures to safeguard farming communities, particularly during the peak agricultural season.
He added that troops remain committed to ensuring a secure environment for farmers to carry out their activities without fear of attacks or intimidation by criminal groups.
The successful rescue, according to the source, highlights the importance of timely intelligence gathering and rapid response mechanisms in tackling security threats across rural communities.
