ABUJA: President Bola Tinubu will have n July 13 present to the public, a book of tributes, entitled “Tributes and Condolences in Honour of Muhammadu Buhari,” as part of activities marking the first anniversary of the transition of the former president.
The Central Planning Committee for the one-year remembrance, prayers and supplications for Buhari, announced this at a news conference Wednesday in Abuja.
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF and Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, Boss Mustapha, said the commemorative event would consist principally of interfaith and interdenominational prayers reflecting the values Buhari upheld throughout his life and service to the country.
“The programme will consist principally of interfaith and interdenominational prayers, reflecting the values of unity, faith, and national cohesion that he upheld throughout his life and his service to our country,” he said.
According to him, the event will bring together his family, friends and associates, public officials and well-wishers to remember his life and pray for the repose of his soul.
Mustapha said a select number of individuals who worked closely with the late President would speak to his historical legacy and share personal experiences of him at the event.
“In its pages, the global community, including heads of state, diplomats, and political leaders, remembered the late President as a man of simplicity, resilience, and integrity,” he said.
He noted that Buhari’s passing at the age of 82 on July 13 last year drew tributes from around the world for his humility and inspiration.
Mustapha clarified that the book was “neither for sale nor for fundraising,” adding that “it is for free distribution.”
According to him, religious leaders representing various faiths and denominations would lead prayers for the late President at the event.
He expressed hope that the occasion would honour Buhari’s memory while offering comfort and encouragement to his family, friends, admirers and the entire nation.
“Our hope is that the occasion will not only honour the memory of the late President, but also serve as a source of comfort and encouragement to his family, his friends, his admirers, and the entire people of this country who continue to cherish his worthy legacy of service to the nation.
“As members of the Fourth Estate of the Realm, we count on your support to carry word of this event across the country, to encourage the admirers and supporters of the late President, and indeed the general public, to remain united and to pray, individually and in congregation, in all our places of worship, for the repose of his soul,” he said.
