Suspected armed herdsmen have launched attack on the convoy of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ayilamo, in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State and killed two police officers.
A resident of Ayilamo community who did want his name mentioned, narrated that on Tuesday the DPO who had travelled to Makurdi on official assignment, was returning to Ayilamo when his entourage ran into the attackers.
According to the source, “At about 18:00 hours on Monday, some individuals identified as newly deployed Mobile Police officers to Ayilamo community were attacked and killed.
“The incident occurred while the officers were on their way from Ayilamo community to escort the Divisional Police Officer of Ayilamo, who was returning to Ayilamo from Makurdi.”
Suspected bandits had attacked Ayilamo community last Thursday and killed seven residents and four police officers.
The Benue State Police Command’s spokesperson DSP Peter Orchia Aondongu, confirmed the incident, “The DPO came to Makurdi to carry some things and while going back to Ayilamo, he was attacked and lost two of his men in the attack,” he stated.
