The African Democratic Congress (ADC), South East Zone, has rejected the endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for a second term in office by three Igbo governors during an All Progressives Congress, (APC), rally held in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.
This was made known through a statement made available to newsmen by the National Vice Chairman, South East, Sir Bon Unachukwu.
He said, “The ADC wishes to make it abundantly clear that these governors neither speak for Ndi Igbo nor represent the collective aspirations, interests, and expectations of the South East people. Their endorsement of President Tinubu is entirely personal, irresponsible, self-serving, and disconnected from the harsh realities confronting millions of Nigerians today.”
Speaking on behalf of the party, the National Vice Chairman (South East) of ADC, Sir Unachukwu, described the endorsement as a grave misrepresentation of the position of Ndi Igbo and a direct insult to suffering Nigerians who continue to endure unprecedented economic hardship, rising insecurity, inflation, unemployment, and declining living standards under the present administration.
According to Unachukwu, no objective assessment of the performance of the Tinubu administration can justify such an endorsement. Since May 2023, Nigerians have witnessed a steady deterioration in their economic conditions.
“The cost of living has become unbearable, businesses are struggling to survive, and millions of citizens can barely afford basic necessities. It is therefore inconceivable that anyone genuinely concerned about the welfare of the people would endorse the continuation of a government that has failed to address these pressing challenges.
“The endorsement of President Tinubu by these governors is an endorsement of failure. It is an attempt to impose a political position on a people who are daily confronted with hunger, insecurity, unemployment, and hopelessness. Ndi Igbo cannot endorse failure, and Nigerians cannot reward suffering with another term in office.”
The ADC South East leader further noted that Ndi Igbo have little or no reason to celebrate the current administration.
“Despite repeated promises of inclusion and fairness, the South East continues to suffer neglect in critical areas of infrastructure development, federal appointments, and economic investment. Major federal road projects within the region remain incomplete, while other parts of the country, particularly the South West, continue to receive greater attention and funding.
“The party also expressed concern over the growing frustration among young people across the South East. Thousands of educated and energetic youths remain unemployed and disillusioned, with little hope of meaningful economic opportunities. Rather than confronting these challenges and providing practical solutions, some political leaders have chosen to engage in political jamborees designed solely to advance their personal ambitions and secure political favours.
“The ADC therefore rejects, in its entirety, the endorsement of President Tinubu by these governors. Such a position does not reflect the views of Ndi Igbo, nor does it represent the mood of Nigerians who are demanding competent leadership, economic recovery, national unity, security, and good governance.
“As the 2027 general elections approach, the ADC is confident that Nigerians will speak with one voice. That voice will be a clear demand for change and a decisive rejection of failed policies and ineffective leadership. The Nigerian people deserve a government that places their welfare above politics and delivers measurable progress across all sectors of national life.
“The African Democratic Congress stands ready to provide that alternative. ADC represents a new direction founded on competence, accountability, inclusiveness, economic prosperity, and genuine national development. We call on all Nigerians, irrespective of ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation, to join the movement to rescue our nation and build a better future for generations yet unborn.
“History has shown that no amount of political endorsements can override the will of the people. In 2027, Nigerians will make their choice, and that choice will be based on performance, not propaganda; results, not rhetoric; and hope, not disappointment.”
