Real Madrid produced a dramatic late comeback to defeat AS Roma 4-3 in a seven-goal UEFA Champions League thriller, scoring twice in the closing stages to snatch victory from the Italian side.
Roma looked poised for a memorable win after establishing a 3-1 lead, but Real Madrid fought back with three second-half goals to secure all three points in an entertaining league-phase encounter.
The hosts made a strong start and took the lead in the 20th minute through M. D. Roon, who finished off a move created by Matías Soulé to put Roma ahead.
Real Madrid responded five minutes later when Kylian Mbappé found the net, with Y. Diomande providing the assist to restore parity and ensure the visitors went into half-time level at 1-1.
Roma came out strongly after the break and regained the lead in the 51st minute through D. Malen, who converted an opportunity created by R. Mora.
Malen struck again six minutes later, finishing from Soulé’s assist to extend Roma’s advantage to 3-1 and put the hosts in a commanding position.
Real Madrid, however, refused to surrender and began to apply greater pressure as the match entered its closing stages.
Their persistence paid off in the 83rd minute when C. Espi pulled a goal back, converting an assist from Endrick to reduce the deficit to 3-2.
The momentum shifted further in Madrid’s favour two minutes later as Endrick scored to level the contest at 3-3, with Arda Güler providing the assist.
With the match seemingly heading towards a draw, Real Madrid completed their remarkable comeback in the 90th minute when Antonio Rüdiger scored the decisive goal following another assist from Güler.
