President Bola Tinubu will unveil a complimentary book titled “Tributes and Condolences in Honour of Former President Muhammadu Buhari” at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre in Abuja on July 13, 2026, as part of activities marking the first anniversary of the late president’s passing.
Chairman of the Central Planning Committee and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), , Boss Mustapha disclosed this on Wednesday while briefing journalists in Abuja on preparations for the memorial programme.
The former President died on July 13, 2025, while receiving medical treatment in London. His remains were subsequently flown back to Nigeria and buried in his hometown with full state and military honours.
Mustapha said the anniversary event, with President Tinubu serving as Special Guest of Honour, would bring together Buhari’s family members, friends, former associates, public officials and admirers for prayers and reflections on the late leader’s life and legacy.
He added that a select number of individuals who worked closely with Buhari would speak on his historical contributions and share personal experiences of their time with him.
“A book of tributes, ‘Tributes and Condolences in Honour of Muhammadu Buhari,’ will be presented to the public by the Special Guest of Honour, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“In its pages, the global community, including heads of state, diplomats and political leaders, remembered the late President as a man of simplicity, resilience and integrity.
“Following his passing at the age of 82 on the 13th of July last year, the world honoured his life for his humility and as a source of inspiration. I should add that the book is neither for sale nor intended for fundraising. It is meant for free distribution
“Religious leaders representing various faiths and denominations will lead prayers for him. Our hope is that the occasion will not only honour the memory of the late President but also serve as a source of comfort and encouragement to his family, friends, admirers and the entire nation that continues to cherish his legacy of service,” Mustapha said.
The former SGF also disclosed that after the first memorial anniversary, stakeholders would determine whether future commemorations should become annual or be held periodically.
“Now, we thought as his associates, family members, friends and those who worked with him during his tenure that it was a worthy venture to remember him on the first anniversary of his death.
“It has been a year of solemn reflection on the life and times of President Muhammadu Buhari. Personally, I miss him and cherish the opportunity to have served the nation through his instrumentality,” he added.
