The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said it has restored the Benin–Egbin 330kV transmission line following a power system disturbance that disrupted electricity supply across Lagos and its environs on Thursday morning.
TCN disclosed that the Benin–Egbin line, which was opened during the incident, has been successfully restored and is currently transmitting bulk electricity.
However, engineers are still working to rectify faults on the Benin–Omotosho 330kV transmission line to achieve full restoration of power supply to the Lagos complex.
According to the company, a combined team of engineers from its Benin and Omotosho sub-regions has been deployed to the affected line and is working round the clock to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
The disruption occurred at approximately 8:19 a.m. on June 25, 2026, when the national grid experienced voltage instability that rapidly spread across the Lagos corridor. The incident resulted in the loss of some generating stations, transmission line outages, and a widespread interruption of electricity supply in Lagos and surrounding areas.
TCN said the National Control Centre responded swiftly by directing several power generation companies to reduce their output in order to arrest the resulting frequency rise, stabilize the system, and prevent a more extensive disturbance on the national grid.
In response to the development, the Minister of Power, Chief Joseph Tegbe, immediately convened an emergency meeting with the leadership of TCN and the Nigerian Independent System Operator NISO to coordinate urgent restoration efforts and determine measures to prevent a recurrence.
The company expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the outage, apologising to residents, businesses, and other electricity consumers affected by the disruption.
“We deeply regret the inconvenience and discomfort this incident has caused residents, businesses, and all electricity customers in the affected areas,” TCN said in a statement.
The company assured Nigerians that the Ministry of Power and all relevant agencies are doing everything possible to restore normal bulk power transmission along the affected corridor.
TCN further reiterated its commitment to strengthening and stabilising the national grid, noting that ongoing efforts are aimed at minimising the recurrence of similar incidents in the future.
The transmission company appealed to affected consumers to remain patient while restoration work continues on the Benin–Omotosho transmission line, adding that updates would be provided as progress is made toward full restoration of electricity supply to Lagos and neighbouring areas.
