Three men have been arraigned before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, over the alleged theft of seven goats valued at N700,000.
The defendants, Olarewaju Segun, 27; Abubakar Yinusa, 28; and Farouk Aliu, 28, are facing two counts of stealing and receiving stolen property.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the alleged offences occurred at about 11:00 a.m. on October 11 at Abuja Quarters, along NTA Road, Ado-Ekiti.
Adeniyi alleged that Segun stole seven goats belonging to Ifeoluwa Adebomojo, valued at N700,000.
He further alleged that Yinusa and Aliu received the goats from Segun, knowing they had been stolen.
The prosecutor said the alleged offences contravened Sections 302(1) and 343(1) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He subsequently requested an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present his witnesses.
Counsel to the defendants, Paul Ayantoyinbo, urged the court to grant his clients bail on liberal terms, assuring the court that they would not abscond.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, granted each defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in the same amount.
The court adjourned the case until November 19 for hearing.
