Bauchi State governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, on Monday took former President Goodluck Jonathan on an inspection tour of remodelled and upgraded facilities at the Yankari Game Reserve.
The inspection was part of activities marking Jonathan’s visit to Bauchi State, during which Governor Bala showcased ongoing efforts by his administration to reposition the state’s foremost tourist destination and enhance its infrastructure and visitor experience.
During the tour, the governor and the former President inspected several key facilities recently upgraded by the state government, including the newly installed 500KVA solar power farm.
The solar facility is designed to provide the game reserve with a reliable and sustainable electricity supply, thereby improving operations and enhancing the experience of tourists visiting the destination.
The delegation also inspected the refurbished Yankari Museum, which forms part of the state government’s efforts to preserve and promote the historical, cultural and natural heritage of the reserve.
Another major attraction inspected was the iconic Wikki Warm Springs, where renovation and improvement works have been carried out by the present administration to preserve the facility and improve its appeal to tourists.
Governor Bala Mohammed used the inspection tour to highlight his administration’s commitment to transforming Yankari Game Reserve into a modern and competitive tourist destination capable of attracting more visitors, creating employment and generating economic opportunities for Bauchi State.
The governor said the ongoing investments in the reserve were part of broader efforts to reposition tourism as a key component of the state’s economic development agenda.
The visit by the former president also provided an opportunity for Governor Bala to demonstrate the progress recorded in the rehabilitation and upgrading of facilities at Yankari, one of Nigeria’s most renowned tourist destinations.
