LAGOS, Nigeria: Nigerian-built social media platform Crowwe is gathering momentum ahead
of its planned relaunch, after the former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy,
Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami (CON), and former Presidential Special Assistant on Digital
Communications, Bashir Ahmad (OON), signed up as users.
The platform says it has now
recorded more than 4,000 registered users.
Pantami announced on his official social media account that he had joined Crowwe and urged his
followers, family and friends to do the same. He was Director-General of the National
Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) from 2016 to 2019, and served as
Minister of Communications and Digital Economy from 2019 to 2023, where he led the digital
economy agenda and the renaming of the ministry. His sign-up comes days after the Federal
High Court in Gombe, on September 24, nullified the process that produced him as the Gombe
State Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 2027 governorship candidate and ordered a fresh
primary within 30 days. The ruling followed a suit by aspirant Usman Aliyu Garry. The PDP
scheduled the fresh primary for September 29, cleared Pantami and two other aspirants to
participate, and Pantami eventually emerged as the party’s standard bearer.
Ahmad, who served as Special Assistant to former President Muhammadu Buhari on Digital
Communications, joined earlier in the week and encouraged his audience to follow suit. He
highlighted the platform’s Nigerian origins, describing it as a homegrown application developed
in Nigeria by Nigerians.
The sign-ups by both public figures, given their backgrounds in digital technology and public
communications, add fresh weight to the platform’s renewed push. Alongside growing
registrations from individuals and businesses, they underline Crowwe’s ambition to become a
homegrown alternative for social networking, communication, digital payments and business
productivity.
Its management expects more sign-ups as awareness of the upgraded services
grows.
Founded by Adamu Garba II, Executive Chairman and Chief Platform Architect of IPI Group,
Crowwe is returning as an expanded digital ecosystem that combines social networking, private
messaging, content creation, digital payments and artificial intelligence-powered productivity
tools in one application.
Its upgraded features include Feed for posts and audience engagement, Flow for short-form
video discovery, and Status for sharing text, images, videos and links that disappear after 24
hours.
The platform also offers INNA SI, an integrated assistant designed to support research,
document preparation and routine business tasks. Other services include group chats, voice and
video calls, Crowwe Wallet, Business Workspace and cash book tools.
Through its business features, users can prepare invoices and quotations, manage customer
transactions and access payment services, including airtime and data purchases.
The company
says its payment infrastructure is supported by a partnership with Flutterwave.
As it advances towards relaunch, Crowwe is positioning itself as a Nigerian-developed digital
ecosystem for individuals, creators, families and businesses, with the aim of making
communication, content sharing and everyday transactions accessible within a single application.
It says it is building an inclusive community across sectors and socioeconomic groups.
