Obiano Demands Probe Into NAF Crash That Killed 25

Former Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, has called for a thorough and credible investigation into the Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash near Igbokoda in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, which claimed 25 lives.

Obiano made the call in a statement posted on his X account on Wednesday while expressing condolences to the families of the victims.

The former governor said the circumstances surrounding the crash must be properly established, stressing that the victims’ families deserved answers while Nigerians had a right to know what led to the tragedy.

“The Nigerian Air Force crash near Igbokoda, which claimed 25 lives, demands a thorough and credible investigation,” Obiano said.

“My thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones. They deserve answers, and the country deserves to know what went wrong.”

Obiano urged the authorities to ensure that the investigation was comprehensive and covered all factors that could have contributed to the crash.

He specifically called for scrutiny of the aircraft’s maintenance history, operational procedures and other circumstances surrounding the incident.

The former governor also urged the authorities to make the findings of the investigation public, saying transparency would help Nigerians understand what happened and restore confidence in the process.

He further called for the implementation of any safety recommendations arising from the inquiry to prevent a recurrence.

According to Obiano, an investigation into the crash should not end with identifying the cause of the incident but should also ensure that lessons are applied to improve aviation safety.

“The true measure of an investigation is whether its lessons prevent another family from enduring the same loss,” he said.

The call comes as concerns continue to mount over the safety of military aircraft and the circumstances surrounding recent military aviation incidents in the country.
