The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has arrested a woman in Abia State over the alleged trafficking of a newborn baby.
The state commander of the agency, Izunna Iwobi, disclosed this while speaking to journalists in Umuahia, the state capital, saying the arrest followed intelligence received by the agency.
He said the woman was arrested at a hospital where she had gone to take delivery of the baby after allegedly negotiating with a prospective buyer.
Iwobi said the suspect was being detained by the agency and would be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
The commander also disclosed that the agency had arrested a 56-year-old man from Umuire Omoba in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area over the alleged recruitment of underage boys for sexual exploitation.
He said the arrest followed complaints from members of the community and investigations by the agency.
According to him, several underage boys were reportedly living with the suspect, who allegedly exploited their vulnerable circumstances by offering them food.
Iwobi said investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly subjected the boys to anal sex.
He further alleged that the suspect initiated his victims and made them take blood oaths before subjecting them to sexual exploitation.
The commander said the suspect had been remanded at the Umuahia Correctional Facility, adding that further legal proceedings would follow the completion of investigations.
