Zamfara State governor, Dauda Lawal, has been honoured with the Outstanding Governor Award for the North-West region at the Daily Times Nigeria Centenary Awards held in Abuja.
The award was presented to the governor Thursday night during the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards organised by Nigeria’s oldest newspaper to mark its 100th anniversary since its first publication in 1926.
A statement signed by Suleiman Bala Idris, Spokesperson for the Zamfara governor on Thursday night, said Governor Lawal was recognised for his leadership, commitment to public service, and contributions to national development.
Chairman of the DTN@100 Heroes Awards Council, Bolaji Okusaga, said the governor emerged top after an extensive nomination and public voting process in the North-West.
“Following an extensive nomination and public voting process, you received the highest number of votes in this award category.
“The Times Heroes Award Council and other key stakeholders subsequently confirmed your selection in recognition of your leadership, public service, and contribution to national development,” Mr. Okusaga stated.
In his response, Governor Lawal expressed appreciation to the Board, Management and Organising Committee of the Daily Times Nigeria @100 Celebration, the Times Heroes Award Council, and Nigerians who supported his nomination.
He described the honour as a reflection of his administration’s commitment to promoting good governance and effective public service in Zamfara State.
Other prominent Nigerians honoured at the event include the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, and former President of the African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina.
The Daily Times announced that recipients of the DTN@100 Times Heroes Awards will be featured in the Nigerian Grand Book, a 700-page commemorative volume documenting individuals and institutions shaping Nigeria’s development. The foreword to the book was written by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Daily Times, first published in 1926, has chronicled Nigeria’s political, economic, social and cultural progress over the past century.
