A support group associated with the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Kwankwasiyya Amana X (KAX), has criticised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the continued omission of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Kano State, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, and other party candidates from its published list.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the group said a 72-hour ultimatum issued by the NDC on October 14 expired on October 17 without the omitted names being restored.
“We are once again expressing deep concern over the continued omission of Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, the NDC governorship candidate in Kano State, from INEC’s published list. Despite the 72-hour ultimatum issued by the NDC on 14 October 2026, which expired on 17 October, no corrective action has been reflected in the published list as of today, 20 October 2026.
“Three days after the deadline expired, INEC’s continued silence and failure to address this matter remain unacceptable.
“INEC’s failure to address this matter raises serious questions about its transparency, responsiveness and commitment to electoral fairness,” the group said.
KAX also recalled a protest held at INEC’s Kano State headquarters on October 16 by the Kwankwasiyya Movement, led by NDC Deputy Governorship Candidate Mustapha Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, to demand the reinstatement of Gwarzo and other omitted candidates.
During the protest, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano State, Abdu Zango, said the commission had received the protesters’ petition and would forward it to the national headquarters for consideration. He also said an appeal window remained open until October 24.
The controversy follows the publication of INEC’s final list of governorship candidates for the 2027 elections, which reportedly excluded Gwarzo and his running mate from the Kano State section.
The group urged INEC to correct the list, reinstate all duly nominated NDC candidates whose names were omitted and explain the reasons for their exclusion.
“We therefore call on INEC to immediately correct its published list, reinstate all duly nominated NDC candidates whose names were omitted, and publicly clarify the reasons for these omissions,” the statement said.
KAX warned that further delays could undermine public confidence in the electoral process.
“INEC must not allow further delays to undermine public confidence in the electoral process. The Commission must act promptly, transparently and in accordance with the law,” it added.
