The Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS) has warned that anyone involved in illegal tax and revenue collection on highways will be arrested and prosecuted in line with the law.
Executive chairman of KGIRS, Dr Salihu Sule Enehe, gave the warning on Sunday in Lokoja, saying the enforcement followed the implementation of Nigeria’s new tax law, which took effect on January 1, 2026.
Enehe said the law prohibits all forms of unauthorised revenue collection on highways, adding that violators would be treated as criminals and economic saboteurs.
He said the new tax regime has also abolished the sale of revenue emblems and the collection of haulage fees on highways.
According to him, haulage charges can only be collected at designated loading and off-loading points in line with the provisions of the law and global best practices.
The KGIRS boss urged transport operators, businesses and members of the public to comply with the new tax regime and report illegal revenue collectors to the appropriate authorities.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to a transparent, efficient and business-friendly tax administration that supports economic growth and protects legitimate taxpayers.
