Gov. Dikko Radda of Katsina State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of women and children through stronger policies and collaboration.
Radda gave the assurance while receiving a delegation from the Nigerian Governors’ Spouses Forum (NGSF) on an advocacy visit on Saturday in Katsina.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the delegation was led by the governor’s wife, Hajiya Zulaihat Radda.
Radda said that his administration remained resolute in implementing policies and programmes that promote the safety, dignity and rights of women, girls and children across the state.
He stressed that his government would not tolerate any form of abuse or discrimination against women and children.
The governor pledged sustained collaboration with relevant stakeholders to strengthen prevention, response and support mechanisms for GBV victims.
Radda also commended the NGSF delegation for championing advocacy programmes that promote the protection of vulnerable groups.
He described the forum’s campaign as timely, noting that sustained public awareness would help reduce incidents of violence and foster safer communities.
Earlier, the governor’s wife said the campaign was designed to sensitise communities on the harmful effects of violence against women, girls, children and encouraged stronger measures to safeguard survivors.
She described gender-based violence as a serious threat to family stability, social development and national progress.
According to her, ending the menace requires collective action involving government, traditional rulers, religious leaders, parents, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.
The governor’s wife commended the state government for initiatives aimed at protecting the rights of women, children and improving their welfare.
She urged communities to break the “culture of silence” surrounding abuse by reporting cases promptly and supporting victims.
“The visit formed part of the forum’s nationwide campaign to raise awareness on the dangers of GBV and mobilise support for the protection of women and children,” she said.
The state’s Ministry of Women Affairs has continued to implement measures and programmes focused on prevention, public enlightenment, victim support and collaboration with relevant institutions to checkmate GBV.
NAN reports that the forum also paid a similar advocacy visit to Katsina State House of Assembly.
