Jaguar Land Rover is recalling 250,857 sport utility vehicles (SUVs) in the United States over a defect that could prevent the driver’s airbag from deploying during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
The recall affects certain Land Rover Defender, Discovery and Range Rover models, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The safety regulator said the driver’s airbag clockspring connector may corrode over time, potentially disrupting the electrical connection needed for the airbag to deploy as intended in the event of a collision.
To address the issue, Jaguar Land Rover dealers will inspect the affected vehicles and apply a protective lubricant gel to the connector terminals at no cost to owners.
