Dolphins, First Bank Make Winning Starts In 2026 Zenith Bank/NBBF Women’s League

Defending champions Dolphins Basketball Club and former champions First Bank made winning starts to their campaigns in the Atlantic Conference of the 2026 Zenith Bank/NBBF Women’s Basketball League at the National Stadium in Lagos on Sunday.

Dolphins overcame First Deep Water 59-46 in a keenly contested encounter that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

The defending champions maintained their composure in the decisive stages to secure a comfortable 13-point victory and begin their title defence on a positive note.

Dolphins president Olumide Oyedeji expressed delight with the result, saying he expected the team to improve further as the competition progresses.

First Bank also had to work hard for victory, edging Royal Aces 58-56 in a closely fought encounter.

The two former heavyweights traded baskets throughout the game before First Bank held their nerve to secure a narrow two-point victory.

In the opening match of the day, Victoria Queens recorded the biggest win, defeating IGP Queens 69-39.

Dolphins will return to action today (Monday) against Bayelsa Blue Whales as the defending champions look to build on their winning start.

Other fixtures will see MFM face Victoria Queens, First Bank take on IGP Queens, while Royal Aces battle First Deep Water.
