Fifteen-year-old Abbas Salisu attends school without shoes and, at times, without the basic items many of his classmates take for granted.
A JSS2 student of LEA Primary School, Nyanya Hausawa, Abuja, Abbas said his family cannot afford to provide him with a school uniform.
Speaking in an interview with LEADERSHIP, on why he was not wearing shoes, the teenager simply replied, “No money to buy one.”
The teenager also revealed the difficulties he faces in meeting other school-related needs, saying that his school fees are paid by a good Samaritan.
Despite the financial challenges confronting him, Abbas continues to attend school, holding on to a dream that appears far removed from his present circumstances.
When asked what he wanted to become in the future, the teenager said; “I want to be a soldier.”
