Benue State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Dr Benjamin Ashaver, has inspected 23 Divisional Agricultural Offices (DAOs) across the state to ensure the transparent distribution of this year’s government-supplied fertiliser to farmers.
During the inspection, the Commissioner commended the Divisional Agricultural Officer (DAO) for Ukum Local Government Area, Andrew Shinkpe, for his dedication, transparency, and accountability in the supply of fertiliser to farmers.
Ashaver disclosed that about three truckloads of green plant fertiliser, as well as Indorama Urea and NPK fertilisers, have already been distributed to farmers in Ukum. In comparison, two additional truckloads were currently being offloaded for further distribution.
He noted that the high-quality fertilisers were expected to significantly improve crop yields and agricultural productivity during the farming season.
The Commissioner hailed Benue State governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, for ensuring the timely provision of quality, assorted fertilisers to farmers across the state.
According to him, the intervention demonstrates the administration’s commitment to agricultural development and will strengthen agribusiness, enhance food production, and restore Benue’s pride as Nigeria’s Food Basket.
Ashaver, however, cautioned citizens against engaging in acts capable of tarnishing the state’s hard-earned reputation, particularly the circulation of fake news and misinformation on social media, urging the public to always verify information before sharing it, and to support government efforts aimed at improving the welfare of farmers and the people of the state.
