Nigerian Afrobeats star Ayra Starr is set to make history as the first African artiste to headline the halftime show at a National Football League (NFL) game.
The 24-year-old singer will perform on Sunday, October 11, during the international NFL match between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Jacksonville Jaguars at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
Speaking ahead of the performance, the Grammy-nominated hitmaker emphasized that achieving such a major milestone carries a powerful message for global African music.
“At the end of the day, as artists, we speak for the culture and we speak for the people that listen to us. And we have to represent any way that seems fit,” she stated, adding that she will perform tracks from her latest album, Starrgirl.
Born Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, Ayra Starr rose to international prominence following her 2021 breakout hit single Bloody Samaritan. She has since built an impressive music career with albums including 19 & Dangerous (2021) and The Year I Turned 21 (2024).
